If you have not noticed, Minecraft has been stuck at its latest patch for a very long time now and there seems to be no little sign of a future patch… UNTIL NOW! The Minecraft 1.6 Pre-release is available to download now for anyone who is keen to see what has been implemented! The official full release will be on Monday, 1st July and I’m sure that it will be fantastic! Are you ready to see what is new in Minecraft?
First of all, I am very glad to announce that Horses will now be in Minecraft 1.6! It has been a long time coming, but finally you will now be able to tame, ride and feed your very own horse! Alongside these new additions are also the ability to create armor for your horses, and mules! And if you think that is cool, then how are you going to react when you find out that MONKEYS, (yes you read that right, monkeys) are now in Minecraft too! You may be thinking to yourself: “But what will these new animals feed on?”. Well, it has been confirmed that bales of hay are making an entrance too!
But enough of animals, what else is new? No longer will you have to strive to make a carpet from different colored wool as carpets are now an individual item! And speaking of new items, you will now be able to craft a whole block of coal which presumably can be used as a fuel source! Hardened clay, soft clay and leads are also some of the smaller changes in 1.6! One thing that many players may be saddened to hear is that Herobrine has been removed from the game, however to make up for it Notch and his team have allowed for ‘Name Tags’ to be a new item. This is an interesting feature that could prove very useful in server-play!
On the utilities side, one external update in the Minecraft 1.6 patch are ‘resource packs’. Resource packs are essentially rebooted and improved ‘texture packs’. Now, you have the ability to not only add new textures into the game, but also things such as sound effects and music! This is a very useful feature that serves as a modders utility!
How to Install Minecraft 1.6 Pre-Release Update
With the release of a brand new patch for Minecraft it is understandable for a change in installation, I suggest that you follow these steps closely if you want to play the 1.6 patch!
- First of all, the new patch for Minecraft 1.6 requires a new Minecraft launcher, you can download these launchers for your chosen operating system.
- Next, you need to download the Minecraft 1.6 Pre-release server files, once you have done this you must drag and drop these files into the ‘saves’ folder of your directory and load up your new launcher.
- If you have followed these steps closely you should be playing the new update of Minecraft, enjoy!
