The Optifine mod for Minecraft 1.5.2 includes alot of features that allow you to tweak your game to your personal player preference. With advanced video settings, this mod let’s you reduce lag and get the game to how you want it.
Upon installing Optifine, you will not see any difference with the gameplay just yet. However, navigate to the options menu and stroll over to Video Settings. You will see that some things have changed. e.g. sliders for Brightness, Smooth Lighting, Render Distance etc. This give you a wider variety of getting your settings to your preferred personal player preference.
The Optifine Mod allows you to change texture packs in-game, change different aspects of how textures work e.g. if water/lava/fire is animated, if leaves are transparent etc. The optifine mod also allows you to change the chunk loading abilities. Let me explain some things that I didn’t cover in the video about FPS and Optimization:
Advanced OpenGL:
Basically, it uses a thing called ‘occlusion culling’ which uses is to determine which surfaces of blocks and parts of surfaces blocks are not visible from a certain viewpoint. Having this on Fast would make calculations quicker, giving you more FPS.
Fog:
Fancy is exponential – Scruffier fog, not a smoother output
Fast is linear – Quite the opposite – Smoother, detailed fog
Facts:
Navigate to: Performance
Smooth FPS ON = Less input lag, lower fps
Smooth FPS OFF = More input lag, higher fps
Here is a general overview of the OptiFine Mod
