Some people absolutely hate parkour maps. They think they’re just too hard and frustrating. Other people like myself find them an absolute joy to play through. The Castle of Jumping and Falling by Salmaras, a good looking, relatively easy and redstone smart map, is one of the first parkour maps to be updated to 1.11, 1.9.4, 1.8.9 and 1.7.10
The Castle of Jumping and Falling a new very well done parkour map. Basically, it’s split into three sections. Each section you have to go through and get pass the parkour challenges. Once you’ve completed all three, you can escape the castle. In each section there are numerous hidden chests dotted around. These chests contains different coloured wool. Collecting all the colours is one of the main challenges, as you lay them out at the end to see how well you’ve done. Each parkour challenge is done extremely well, making them look very natural to the castle so they blend in. For example, one of the first challenges is a ruined library. At first it just looks like a… Well, ruined library. Look at it again and you can make out little platforms and other parkour elements within it. In fact, the aesthetics of the whole map is one of my favourite things.
I also enjoyed all the redstone in the map. At the end of each section you flick a lever to open the next door. You also flick another lever and you’ll find yourself falling through the chandelier back into the main room. It’s a small part of the map, but I still found it kinda cool. The use of ender chests was also very well done. There’s ender chests all around the place in the Castle of Jumping and Falling. These are for putting the wool you’ve collected in case you die. Right at the end of the map there is also an ender chests so you can collect all your wool. Lastly, I just found it really great to play this through in 1.11, 1.9.4, 1.8.9 and 1.7.10 I swear I had a nerdgasm when I heard those ladder sounds, and finding bats hanging off the roofs in abandoned mines is an awesome feeling.
Ultimately, if you’re bored and looking for a nice easyish parkour map to do that’s not completely stupid and actually makes sense, then this is a map you should think about trying. It has all the features of a good parkour map, combined with the pleasing aesthetics of an adventure map. I’m even tempted to try this one again to see if I can collect all of the wool!
